After being announced as Ohio Mr. Basketball, there was talk that Malaki Branham maybe a two-year and done player. After starting the season coming off the bench for the Buckeyes, Malaki quickly began to show that the hype was real. Malaki suited up as a starter for the second game. He put up average numbers over the next couple of games. However, on January 2, 2022, number 22 had a performance that put him on the radar of many NBA scouts. He put together a 35-point game to lead the Buckeyes over Nebraska 87-79 in overtime.

The now eighteen soon-to-be nineteen-year-old has announced that he wanted to test the NBA waters following the completion of the 2021-22 season while maintaining his eligibility.
